Infectious Diseases

The Division of Infectious Diseases offers comprehensive services in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of infectious disease problems including hospital-acquired infections and disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).   Our infectious disease specialists formulate tailored treatment plans that are specific for each patient.  We strive to provide the highest quality care while helping patients manage their conditions and enjoy the best possible quality of life.

The division serves as the lead agency for the Midlands Care Consortium for the care of patients infected with HIV/AIDS, through a federally funded Ryan White Title II grant.

Faculty physicians also provide the educational leadership and training for medical students at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and for residents at Palmetto Health Richland and the Dorn VA Medical Center.  We remain on the cutting edge of emerging opportunities in clinical research and outcomes research to ensure our patients receive the quality, compassionate care they deserve.  Extensive research is underway in the areas of hospital epidemiology and clinical aspects of HIV.
