Pulmonology, Critical Care Medicine & Sleep Disorders

The Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Disorders Division is staffed by board-certified physicians who provide expert care in a wide range of illnesses that affect the lungs and respiratory system.   Our team is dedicated to making every effort to help our patients breathe easier and enjoy a high quality of life. 

A strong collaboration with Palmetto Health Richland and the Dorn VA Medical Center allows the division’s physicians to provide comprehensive outpatient and inpatient care to thousands of patients. 

Our experienced pulmonologists and critical care specialists use state-of-the-art technology to skillfully diagnose and treat patients suffering from a variety of conditions.  Through our clinical offices at the University Specialty Clinics, we offer outpatient consultative services for adult patients with:

  • Asthma and airway diseases
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Emphysema (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD)
  • Interstitial lung diseases 
  • Lung cancer
  • Lung nodules
  • Sleep disorders
  • Pulmonary fibrosis
  • Pulmonary hypertension

Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Disorders physicians also provide care for patients in an outpatient continuity pulmonary clinic at the Dorn VA Medical Center.  

Inpatient services offered through the Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Disorders division at partner hospitals include:

  • Intensive care services for management and treatment of the critically ill at Palmetto Health Richland and Dorn VA Medical Center, including medical and surgical floor units, open-heart critical and cardiac care units and supervision of house staff
  • Palmetto Health Richland inpatient services for evaluation and treatment of various lung conditions, including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including bronchoscopies, thoracenteses, pleural biopsies, pulmonary function studies, cardiopulmonary exercise studies, and sleep studies
  • Manage and direct the Palmetto Health Richland Sleep Diagnostics Center, the Outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, Respiratory Care Department, and Pulmonary Function Laboratory
