What to Expect from Your Visit

To make an appointment with a University Specialty Clinics internist, you can simply call the clinic you wish to visit.

Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time.

Visit with your Internist

  • When you arrive at the Internal Medicine clinic, you will be required to check in. You will be asked to verify your address, contact phone numbers, and insurance status.
  • You may also be asked to fill out forms for billing purposes.
  • You will also be asked to provide your co-payment and any required deductible as well as paying any previous balance on your account prior to your visit. The University Specialty Clinics accept cash, check, or debit/credit cards for payment.
  • Bring your prescription and non-prescription medications with you to your office visit, so that your health care team can accurately record the medications that you are taking and review your medications with you.
  • A member of the health care team at your University Specialty Department of Internal Medicine practice may also review some wellness concerns with you. He or she may ask you questions about smoking, alcohol consumption, pain and falling history, or other specific questions based on your age, sex, or personal medical history.

Check list for clear communication with your doctor:

  • Ask these three good questions at every doctor visit:
    • What is my main problem?
    • What do I need to do?
    • Why is it important for me to do this?
  • Bring a friend or family member you trust along with you
  • Make a list of your concerns or questions ahead of time
  • Bring all medicine with you to your appointment
  • Use one pharmacy to fill your medicine and ask questions at the pharmacy when filling a new medicine
