Patients with findings of lung nodules or lung masses that
need further diagnostic testing are seen in this clinic.
Further testing may include imaging studies such as CAT
scan, PET scan, Nuclear lung scans, etc. Other tests include
pulmonary function studies including static lung function
studies and cardiopulmonary exercise studies.
Biopsy procedures for the diagnosis of these lung nodules
can be done bronchoscopically at the Palmetto Health
Richland Hospital. Our staff physicians are all credentialed
to do diagnostic bronchoscopic procedures at Palmetto Health
Richland. Transthoracic needle biopsies are typically
referred to the Interventional Radiology department of the
hospital. Surgical candidates are referred to the Carolina
Cardiac Surgical Associates.
Patients requiring specialized bronchoscopic procedures are
referred to the interventional pulmonologist of the
division. This may include endobronchial ultrasound guided
biopsies, photodynamic therapy, brachytherapy, pleuroscopy,
endobronchial stent placements, endotracheal laser therapy.
